IFC ready to support public-private partnership in Azerbaijan

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. The International Finance Corporation (IFC) is preparing to introduce new investment and economic instruments in Azerbaijan.

IFC representative in Azerbaijan Aliya Asimova informs that they are considering several projects in the real sector, and consider the possibility of financing the scheme of public private partnership (PPP).

“We believe that there is a need in PPP, and there can be possibilities for funding. This is something new for Azerbaijan, and maybe we can do something. PPP tool is likely to be possible in infrastructure sectors, or in agriculture. The matter is still at early stage of consideration,” Azimova said.

Today there is not active financing for the financial sector.

“No negotiations are being conducted with the banks currently. Last year we provided about $50 million for the financial sector. Now banks are more interested in attracting technical assistance,” Azimova said.

Within the current strategy the IFC is to provide $200-250 million to Azerbaijan.
